Myofascial Release Therapy

MFR is a very effective technique in eliminating pain and restoring motion.  It involves the hands-on application of gentle, sustained pressure onto the fascial restrictions until the restrictions are released.

Fascia is a web-like, three dimensional connective tissue which encompasses the entire body. It surrounds muscle, blood vessels, lymph nodes, nerves, bones, and all other organs including the brain and spinal cord, all the way to the cellular level. In its normal state, the fascia is relaxed and smooth, and its layers glide fluidly against one another without restriction or restrain.

Trauma, such as a fall, whiplash, surgery, stress, or the cumulative effects of poor or uneven posture over time can cause the fascia to become shortened, or tight, and can cause the fascia layers to stick together. The fascia can then exert excessive pressure over the blood vessels, nerves, muscles and organs, producing pain, and restriction of motion.

MFR has been used for pain relief due to:
  • Back Pain
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Chronic Pain
  • Disc Problems
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches
  • Infants/Children
  • Jaw Pain (TMJ)
  • Knee Pain
  • Migraines
  • Myofascial Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Pelvic Pain
  • Scar Release
  • Sciatica
  • Scoliosis
  • Shoulder Tightness
  • Sports Injuries
  • Whiplash
Since many of the standard tests such as x-rays, CAT scans, etc. do not show the fascial restictions, it is thought that many may have fascial problems, but most go undiagnosed.
